About me
Hello!
I’m an Infrastructure Engineer at a digital only FinTech Bank. I’m Google Cloud certified and an official Kubestronaut! Which is why you’ll mostly see Google Cloud and Kubernetes content from me!
Previously, I was a Principal Platform engineer and a Google Authorized Trainer at Qodea (Was, Appsbroker) for 5 years. Tech leading and engineering complex infrastructure projects and delivering technical training to over 1000 learners over 2 and a half years!
I’ve mentored engineers just getting started, engineers aiming to reach promotions and people returning to tech roles.
Before my current role, I was a Site Reliability Engineer at another Cloud consultancy, before that, I was a Linux infrastructure SysAdmin at a startup.
This is where I first got into DevOps tools, methodology, understanding the culture and cloud technology and generally really started getting into and enjoying automation.
I'm genuinely passionate about all things IT enterprise infrastructure, DevOps, automation, learning, developing and most recently delivering training.
How did I get here?!
I was a career changer about 14 years ago, going from working in a factory with no real qualifications since school to quitting that job to go to college to do 2 years worth of IT courses in a year. I was hooked!
Since then, I have been in the industry for around 11/12 years, from broadband tech support in a call center, desktop support at a university, Linux SysAdmin at a startup, to Platform Engineering consultancy.
I've been really lucky to have met, worked with, worked for and been inspired by some amazing people in my journey, which inspires me to keep pushing and keep being ambitious, but also to start empowering people with training, development and mentoring.
This blog is my place where I write about some of the interesting things I’m working on in my day job, things outside of my day job iIm tinkering with and want to work with more and even things that I broke then fixed and learnt about (failure is something that should be embraced and used as an opportunity to learn from, I’m all for telling the times that something didn’t go to plan!).
Outside of platform engineering and training, I love gaming, board and tabletop gaming, Lego, cooking (especially BBQ!), movies, spending time with my young family, rugby and craft beer!
